Our Story

Salvge finds it’s roots in a last minute university assignment in 2017. Josh’s lecturer Joanna Fowles suggested he try natural dye. All it took was a bit of time and some experiments and he was hooked. In 2020 Josh wrote his thesis paper on the dangers of synthetic dyes, this cemented the idea of natural dye as an alternative. His partner Victoria believed in the idea and with her ecommerce experience the pair co founded the Salvge label. In their studio apartment in Sydney the pair crammed in as many dye pots as they could and experimented away trying to achieve new colours and unique patterns. The pair now operate the label in Kiama and aspire to offer high quality, naturally dyed clothing.

NON-TOXIC INGREDIENTS

Salvge garments are made with 100% non-toxic ingredients. Most synthetically dyed clothing contains harmful and carcinogenic chemicals. These chemicals don’t just harm worker and the environment, but they have potential to cause harm to wearers. We use natural materials and plant-based dyes so we can offer a safer alternative.

The Founders

Salvge founders Josh and Victoria are both drawn to the principles of season-less, timeless and inclusive styles and so they set out to create a responsible label that is manufactured in Australia. The duo share an affinity to soft silhouettes and easy to wear garments that are centred around quality materials. Josh is a natural dye specialist, he has created the Salvge dye recipes over many years and a lot of trial and error. Together the pair hope to offer a safer alternative to chemically derived dyes.

our responsibility

our responsibility

We believe that the ingredients we need to dye textiles are all around us, trees, seeds and food waste can make amazing colours. We can avoid the need for chemical dyes that cause massive harm to the environment and waste tremendous amounts of water and energy.

Whilst we realise that no new clothing is completely sustainable, we strive to reduce our environmental impact as much as possible. Our garments are dyed with kitchen waste like pomegranate rinds or from foraged leaves and barks.
